Where is Kedarnath and how hard is the trek?

Kedarnath is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas and part of the Chota Char Dham with Yamunotri, Gangotri and Badrinath. The temple opens in late April or May and closes after Diwali, depending on dates announced each year.

Kedarnath is in Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand, high in the Garhwal Himalayas near the source of the Mandakini river.

How long is the Kedarnath trek?

About 16 km one way from Gaurikund. Most groups take six to eight hours to walk up.

When is Kedarnath open?

Usually from late April or May until after Diwali in October or November. Exact opening and closing dates are announced each year.

Is the Kedarnath yatra safe for students?

Yes, with planning: registration, acclimatisation, weather checks, warm clothing and a guide. Students with health conditions should consult a doctor first.
