How learning by doing works on our trips

Experiential learning, or learning by doing, follows a simple cycle: experience something real, reflect on it, connect it to theory and try it again. Our trips build each step in.

  1. Before: a one-page briefing sheet with what to observe
  2. During: a guided visit with an observation task
  3. After: a reflection session linking what students saw to the syllabus

It works for engineering plant visits, field surveys in geography and ecology, and heritage walks in history.

Quick answers from our destination experts. Still unsure? Ask us directly.

What is experiential learning?

Experiential learning is learning by doing: students take part in a real activity, reflect on it and connect it to theory. Industrial visits, field work and workshops are common examples.

What are examples of experiential learning for students?

Industrial visits, field surveys, lab or workshop sessions, internships and service projects are all experiential learning.

What are the benefits of experiential learning?
